laata alamkara

Pothana wonderfully integrates alamkaras in his works particularly in Bhagavatam. alamkaram beautifies literary work like jewelry. Sabdalamkaram (jewelry of sound / letters) beautifies the work. Laata is one such Sabdalamkaram, wherein group of equal consonants and vowels gets repeated with difference in meaning and/or perception.

In kamdha poem of the episode of “Puthana caressing baby Krishna”, the beautiful Laata(లాట) with the word chanu (చను) made the music magic.

10.1-220-ka. “chanu nIku gudupa jAledi
                   chanuvAralu lEru; nIvu chanavale” nanuchuM
                   “janu gudupi mIdha nilukada
janudhAna” nanaga vEdka janu janu gudupan.

BHAVAM: Telling “skilled people who can breast feed you are not available (here). You have to die / know it”, (pUthana) is going forward with josh to give breast feeding (to krishna), as though declaring “after breast feeding I will go (/ die) positively”.
